Hi there – I’m Lauren, the Deputy Manager of Welcome Nurseries @ Alfreton.

Welcome to our nursery in Alfreton, Derbyshire, where children are supported in thinking outside of the box and gaining a wider perspective. I hope this is the perfect find for your little one!

Parents choose us because of our brilliant flexibility, wonderful staff and our great proximity to local schools within in the area.

This nursery has a great approach to learning, providing a wide range of activities for the children to get involved with, from sensory play through to numbers, shapes, life skills and messy days too! Located in the town of Alfreton, we are close by to local bus stops and offer parking off site for parents.

We provide childcare for children aged new born to seven years, as well as offering an after school club for children up to thirteen. Close by to the beautiful Alfreton Park and walking distance to the library, we are proud of our links to the local community and our wonderful relationship with parents and carers.

What happens in a day in the life of a Nursery Manager?

What does a normal day involve for you?

As nursery manager I like to be the first person to arrive in the morning. I open the nursery and have a walk around checking that everything is accessible and safe. It’s also great to check in on the activities planned for the day in order to make sure that they are stimulating, inviting and perfect fo the children.

I like to be there when the children start to arrive as it’s wonderful to see them in through the door and to have a chat with the parents too. My days do revolve around office based work being the manager but I always find time to come and say hello to the children in the day.

Why do you love your job?

I absolutely love my job because I have always been enthusiastic about helping children to learn, develop and discover new things.
I also like the job because of the wonderful staff that I get to work with everyday. It really is brilliant to work alongside such great people and perfect to share knowledge and to develop skills with the children too.

Why do parents love your nursery?

I think the parents love the nursery due to the flexibility that we offer and the strong relationship they have with the staff. I am definitely a people person and I love to chat with parents and carers in order to let them know what their little one has been up to that day. Parents comment regularly that they enjoy the nursery because of the array of activities we offer. For example, this week we’re making and learning about volcanoes! Parents also appreciate that we offer support for children with additional needs.

What are your favourite hobbies outside of work?

My favourite hobby at the moment revolves around keeping fit, healthy and attending the gym. I also love walking whenever I can, especially at the weekend.

How do I book a place for my child?

If you would like to book a place for your child, please fill out the enquiry form, we will then get in touch with you to discuss your interest further.

Are all staff DBS (CRB/police) checked and first aid trained?

All our staff have an enhanced DBS check, this is our way of ensuring quality and safety in our team. All our staff are also paediatric first aid trained and fully aware of the correct action to take in an emergency. We understand that safety is your primary concern – it is ours too.

My child has special educational needs, can they still attend?

Yes, we are happy to discuss any specific requirements you might have regarding SENDCo for your child, working to provide the best possible experience for your little one. We follow the layout of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), a government approved structure for the development and learning of all children aged newborn to five years. Along these lines, we deliver a full range of activities for your little ones, aimed at boosting their communication and aiding them in new discoveries daily.

A great environment for the inquisitive child with a variation of self and adult directed activities. The staff are warm welcoming and they make your child feel like part of a family. Very clean environment and love the seasonal creative pieces my daughter brings home. Great communication for the working parent as Emma responds via email if required . A fantastic place.

I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing about all the weekly activities at the nursery, which I know have taken a lot of time and planning. It’s great to talk to my granddaughter about what she will be doing at the nursery, their input has been so invaluable in her early years.

Moving my daughter here was the best decision- she loves it!

My daughter has grown and developed so much, especially over this past year! You have helped to give her the skills needed to move into the school environment.

Absolutely fantastic nursery! I am so glad my grandson goes there, he has really come out his shell, thank you to all the wonderful staff.

I feel 100% confident in leaving my children here whilst at work. All of the staff are lovely and I feel like they all take interest in everyone’s child.

I am so glad that I chose this nursery for my son. The staff are amazing and friendly and my son enjoys his time there and gets the attention and interaction that every child deserves.

A great school with fantastic staff, my son loves it! His development has come on so much.
