Hi there – I’m Susan, the Manager of Welcome Nurseries @ Millstone Nursery, Leicester.

Welcome to our nursery on Millstone Lane in Leicester, a happy, cheerful place with a safe atmosphere and an excellent range of amenities. I hope this is the perfect find for your little one!

Parents choose us because of our city centre location; proximity to schools and hospitals; our dedicated staff and convenient after school club and holiday care plan.

Spread over three floors, we offer twelve bright and enticing playrooms for the children to explore. Separated by age, the abundance of rooms allows the children to progress gently at their own pace through the nursery.

Our nursery has a great approach to playtime as we allow children to develop their own personalities, abilities and potential through new discoveries daily. Due to our large staff ratio, we are able to ensure that each child receives high levels of attention at all times. From our safe outdoor area with soft flooring, through to our fantastic ball pool, we are proud of the support that we ensure.

Providing childcare for children aged new born to five years and offering freshly cooked meals on site, we create a wonderful space for children to access a range of fun and varied activities, from stories and singing through to painting, dancing and movement.

Due to our city centre location, we are walking distance to public transport and local amenities, whilst our car park is available for parents and staff on site.

What happens in a day in the life of a Nursery Manager?

What does a normal day involve for you?

My normal days usually revolve around the regular running of the nursery as a whole. We operate a doors open policy to tours so I am always ready to show round prospective parents and carers. I am also heavily involved in SENDCo, safe guarding and making sure that staff, parents and children are all happy.

Why do you love your job?

I’ve worked in childcare since I was 18 and I’ve been based at Millstone now for ten years. I love my job because it really is wonderful to look after the children and to see them progress and develop daily. I want to set each child on their way with the best possible start in life.

We get a lot of new children coming to the nursery due to the recommendations of parents in the local area whose children have just left, so it can be wonderful to see that my work is impacting people’s lives in a positive way. It is an honour to be able to help the children to thrive, develop and to ready themselves for the next chapter.

Why do parents love your nursery?

Parents love the nursery due to the bright, friendly atmosphere, the professionalism of the staff and the cleanliness of the playrooms, all of which are cleaned daily. Parents also remark on the delicious menu that we supply to the children, especially the fact that we offer two courses at meal times and that the dishes are rotated by the chef. Parents also really appreciate the pick up and drop off service we offer for schools.

What are your favourite hobbies outside of work?

I am a Leicester City supporter so you will usually catch me watching a match. I also like relaxing when I can!

FAQ's

How do I book a place for my child?

If you would like to book a place for your child, please fill out the enquiry form, we will then get in touch with you to discuss your interest further.

Are all staff DBS (CRB/police) checked and first aid trained?

All our staff have an enhanced DBS check, this is our way of ensuring quality and safety in our team. All our staff are also paediatric first aid trained and fully aware of the correct action to take in an emergency. We understand that safety is your primary concern – it is ours too.

My child has special educational needs, can they still attend?

Yes, we are happy to discuss any specific requirements you might have regarding SENDCo for your child, working to provide the best possible experience for your little one. We follow the layout of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), a government approved structure for the development and learning of all children aged newborn to five years. Along these lines, we deliver a full range of activities for your little ones, aimed at boosting their communication and aiding them in new discoveries daily.

Testimonials:

‘This day nursery looked after our two kids aged 5 and 10 during their school holidays. We cannot think of any issues with the service provided by them. All the carers were very professional and always provided us with a feedback about the children at the end of the day. Kids had a good combination of indoor and outdoor activities which they really enjoyed. We did not have any worries about our kids safety in this place and we would recommend this day nursery to anyone who is looking for child care.

I have 3 daughters who have been going to Welcome Nurseries@Millstone Day Nursery since 2014, using the After School and Holiday Care that they provide. The service that they provide is very much appreciated and I wouldn’t be without them! The staff are fantastic and friendly and are always willing to help. I would definitely recommend this nursery to family and friends.

Nessa

My kids have been at this nursery since they were babies and we now use it for after school and holiday club. Whatever I will say about the team will not be enough! Caring, professional. I don’t know what I will without them! Recommend it to everyone.

A great, friendly and safe place with tons of entertainment for my children and a very reliable service. As a single mother, high quality and reliable childcare is a key to manage daily life, Welcome Nurseries@Millstone Day Nursery is a perfect fit! I know that my children are collected from school and more than happy to spend time at after-school care while I am at work.

‘Having moved to the UK from a different country, I was very cautious about selecting a nursery for my son. I made it a point to go and view nurseries myself before deciding a safe place suitable for him. I also sent him for pre-visits before finalising on Millstone. What attracted me the most was the safety of the place and the number of carers for each play room.
Some of the things that I would like to point out as a parent are:
1) The cleanliness and hygiene.
2) The activities they involve the kids in are tailored to the development of each child. They even give rewards to the kids in the form of certificates which is a very good gesture.
3) No screen time.
4) CCTV in their office(every corner is monitored well).
5) Water area.
6) Different kinds of play, the children don’t get bored. My son goes for 9 hours and doesn’t complain.
7) They write down their observations of the child’s learning and development depending on the activities involved and give it to the parent to read and sign, which is a heart warming thing for me as a person. I get to read about how he has settled in well.
8) They also have school pick up and drop off service which I am sure I will be using once her stars going to school!
Overall, I can be at peace at work because I know my son is in safe hands, and they look after him with just as much affection and care as I would do’.

My children attended this nursery from 6 months old until the eldest was 10 (after school club). This nursery (and its staff) were warm and inviting and nothing was ever too much trouble!

My eldest developed a serious medical condition during her time at the nursery and the staff were more then willing to attend the training required and I never had an issue with the duty of care that they provided during her time there!

I would strongly recommend Millstone Nursery to anyone and, in fact, we did to one of our colleagues who uses their after school facility.

Tracy

I have had all three of my children go to this nursery and they’ve all learnt so much! All of the staff are lovely and you feel like you’re apart of the team there. If you have a problem they are willing to help with anything. They are all just amazing staff and I wouldn’t want my children to go to any other nursery, they have loved every second at the nursery and my youngest is still attending.

Lianne

I would definitely recommend Millstone Day Nursery to anyone and everyone who has a need of childcare. My experience with them over a 12 year period has been nothing but amazing and they have played a valuable part in all of my children’s lives, especially my 7 year old who has been diagnosed with Autism. The Nursery have gone and continue to go beyond the usual typical requirements in order to cater for my son (and previous children). The service provided goes above and beyond, all due to the professionalism of all the staff there. I have had nothing but support, understanding and reassurance from everyone at the nursery and I couldn’t thank them enough for all their efforts.

I highly recommend Welcome Nurseries@Millstone Day Nursery. From the moment my little one joined this nursery the welcoming team have shown an abundance of support and encouragement, their friendly professional staff go above and beyond to meet your child’s needs. Their hard work and dedication is second to none and nothing is too much trouble, my child’s ongoing development is a credit to this. I would like to sincerely thank the whole nursery team for their time and patience over the years. A rare find in a city!’- Anna.

I have 9 year old daughter who has been with Millstone since she was 4 years old. The staff have supported me over all these years and the place is safe and children are happy being there!

Renata

Our son has been attending Millstone since he was 9 months old and since he has started school he attends the holiday care club. I can only heap praise on the staff and facilities they provide! My son loves the food cooked by the chef and looks forward to the trips organised. If you’re considering sending your child to Millstone they will be looked after and you will have peace of mind as they do an amazing job.

My youngest son – now three, attended this nursery for a while at 8 weeks old and has attended again now for the past year and a half. The staff are amazing and work with you with any concerns you have about children or anything that you don’t want doing and actually listen to you when you talk to them. The rooms are always cleaned thoroughly – having seen them being cleaned and the carpets quite often. The staff are extremely friendly and take great care of your children and actually take an interest in them. My son has formed a lovely bond with a few of the ladies here and is really coming out of himself. The have assisted greatly with potty training and weaning off of nap times too! As a rule my son is a pest to eat but every meal that they cook for him here he eats all up and tells me about it on the way home so it’s a thumbs up for the food too! My son will be attending here still with his 30 hours free childcare instead of a mainstream school from September as I personally think that they’re doing a great job!

Charlie

I have 6 year old twin daughters who have been with Millstone since they we 5 months old. The staff have supported me through them learning to eat, teaching then to walk, coping with tantrums and supporting them through starting school! Why is Millstone different? Because they actually care about your children and their welfare, they love my daughters almost as much as I do! I consider the staff as my friends and I thank them for coming on this journey with us!

Natalie

Lovely nursery that is very bright. My son enjoys coming everyday, spending time with the other children and even more the staff. The staff are very aware of my son’s needs after being born premature and help him to meet his goals.

Linda

Our 2 grandchildren whom we have adopted have been attending Millstone for over 2 years .They have blossomed under the care of the fabulous staff & we feel they have been given a strong foundation for when they start school in September. All round fantastic place, would highly recommend.’- Kim.
