Hi there – I’m Sarah, the Manager of Welcome Nurseries @ The Village Pre-School.
Welcome to our nursery in Oswaldbrick, York, a cosy, friendly nursery in a beautiful rural setting. I hope this is the perfect place for your little one!
Parents choose us because we are well established within the local area, easy to access and situated next to wonderful parks, nature trails and a large housing estate; allowing plenty of people to arrive on foot.
This nursery has an innovative child-led approach to learning and development, providing children with the resources they need to flourish, ready for school life.
We provide childcare for children aged two to five years and we are proud of our wonderful nursery space, equipped with everything the children need to support their learning and development.
Small in size and with a warm family feel, we offer parking on site and are situated close to public transport options, all of which are within walking distance of the nursery doors.
My day starts early so I’m in the nursery before the children in order to greet them when they arrive. We meet the parents outside at the moment due to the lockdown rules but usually parents can come in to help the children with their coats and bags.
I spend my mornings with the children and we like to sing songs in the morning to say hello to everybody, as well as asking the children what they had for breakfast or what they’ve been up to that morning.
I help with the snacks in the morning and then it’s free-flow learning for the morning sessions. We like to focus on ‘learning in the moment’ with the child, being there to watch them achieve and develop.
During the afternoon sessions after lunch we like to carry out more activities, from baking to nature walks and visits to the local pond!
I absolutely love my job because it comes naturally to me and I adore watching the children succeed and develop each and every day, getting them ready for life at school. I’m really passionate about what I do and I feel that this really comes through in my work with the children. I also really like working with my staff because the nursery has such a welcoming feel to it – it really feels like a home-from-home.
I think the parents love the nursery for the same reasons that I love it.
They appreciate the way in which we support the children’s learning and they like that the nursery is local to their area. I feel that the parents also appreciate the fact that we keep them involved and updated in everything we do.
Being a mum! I’ve got two children so in my spare time I like to head on walks with them and go out exploring. We also have a dog so it’s great to take them along with us too.

All our staff have an enhanced DBS check, this is our way of ensuring quality and safety in our team. All our staff are also paediatric first aid trained and fully aware of the correct action to take in an emergency. We understand that safety is your primary concern – it is ours too.
Yes, we are happy to discuss any specific requirements you might have regarding SENDCo for your child, working to provide the best possible experience for your little one. We follow the layout of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), a government approved structure for the development and learning of all children aged newborn to five years. Along these lines, we deliver a full range of activities for your little ones, aimed at boosting their communication and aiding them in new discoveries daily.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your staff for the care M has received. The pre-school offers a secure, warm and friendly environment and staff are fantastic with the children.
Since coming here I has come on so so much, his little (big) personality shines every day and it’s all thanks to you girls.
